What is the purpose of The Gateway Center?

The purpose of The Gateway center is to provide an environment for residents to experience the latest technology, research information, discover the unknown, and enjoy time with family and friends.

What ages will benefit from visiting The Gateway? 

All ages are invited to The Gateway, programs offer something for everyone: senior citizens, young professionals, college students, teens, pre-teens and children.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What services are offered at The Gateway? 

Programs are scheduled to provide digital instructions on the favorite devices, including tablets, iPads, laptops, and even cell phones, as needed. Special programs include Grant Writing workshops, Financial Awareness, and Successful Information Searches. Spaces are available for small group meetings and collaboration in the Work Lounges. Exploration through educational applications on interactive tables and a creativity art interactive wall allows children to have fun while learning.

Are the Laptops, iPads, and Tablets available for use at The Gateway?  

Laptops, iPads, and Tablets can be checked out for use within the center with a Gateway Card (find applications online or pick up one at The Gateway information desk). How will the center impact the residential and businesses aspect of the neighborhood? 

The Gateway can serve as the hub of activity and learning for residents and businesses alike. Free Wi-Fi supports research as well as learning in and around the center. The interior of the center is inviting to all who visit, check out a device, or experience one of the interactive walls. With the addition of The Gateway and its technology savvy learning programs, meeting place readiness, and the friendliness of the coffee shop atmosphere, a positive impact on the residents and businesses is expected.

Can I use my Tuscaloosa Public Library (TPL) Card at The Gateway Center? 

Yes, your TPL card is accepted at The Gateway.

Is Wi-Fi access free at The Gateway and available after hours?  

Yes, The Gateway offers free wireless access for all devices used in the building.  After hours, as a service of the City of Tuscaloosa and The Gateway, the Wi-Fi is available to those within range.

Are there volunteer opportunities available at The Gateway?  

Volunteers play a major role in the activities at The Gateway.  Volunteers are needed to assist with technology, programs, and answering questions.  To learn more about volunteering, go to our Volunteer page and complete the Volunteer Application or come by the center and pick up an application at the Information Desk.
